Jesus, son of Mary, made of breasts.

We talked about this picture today in class. A big mosaic of Jesus that was was beautiful to some but only from a far perspective. Once they got in close, the portrait was made of pictures of breasts from porno magazines. I personally think that this isn’t difficult to classify for most. They are going to think: A. “this is art.” B. “this is disgusting and offends me” or C. “this person is an artist by profession and if this is what they call art, so be it.” We all have our predetermined notions of pornography and art, and what they consist of. Now, we also talked about sources. If you don’t have a credible source, how can you be seen as credible yourself? If someone goes with response C above, what is their source? Who says this person is an artist? Are they self- proclaimed? Did they go to school to be an artist, and that is what qualifies them? Does it matter? We see and hear things all the time, that we just accept. We accept them because we are “taught” to. As we grow older, some begin to ask, “why?” It starts young sometimes in the 2 yr. old, “why is everything the way it is” stage. Then we want to know because we are curious, I believe. Later we want to know why because, we want significance. Why are certain things made so important, rather than these other things? Why should i believe what you believe? Just because you told me to? Your reasoning might be flawed, because you don’t have a credible source. Whomever told you that this is the way it is, was, and always will be, might have taught you the same way they were taught, blindly. Just believing something doesn’t work for me, I need to see proof. I don’t think we all got a chance to speak, and some chose not to in class today. So heres a chance……
